Davit and Tariel Kobidze's family wine-cellar is situated in western Georgia, specifically in the eastern part of the Guria region, within the village of Erketi, nestled in the picturesque Supsa river valley. Erketi holds historical significance as a village where viticulture and winemaking have been practiced for generations. Guided by a profound appreciation for vines and a deep respect for traditions, the founders of the Cellar embarked on a journey to rejuvenate the family farm, an endeavor that echoes the viticultural legacy traced back through generations.
Rediscovering long-forgotten grape varieties and establishing new vineyards, they meticulously curated an assembly of the finest local grapes in a dedicated collection vineyard. This labor of love led to the establishment of "Kobidze's Cellar," a revival built upon the grounds of the former open cellar. The year 2014 marked the inception of their venture into bottled wine production, and today, their annual output reaches 5,000 bottles, with an impressive 70% of this production being exported to destinations spanning America, France, Taiwan, and Australia.
Nestled within the nearly 150-year-old "Kobidze Winery," presently undergoing a transformative reconstruction, patrons can relish the experience of sampling and acquiring Bio wines derived from endemic grape varieties, including Chkhaveri, Aladasturi, Jani-Skhilatobani, and Sakmiela-Kamuri. Additionally, a wine originating from vines planted a century and a half ago by the founders' great-grandfather is a treasured offering. Particularly noteworthy is the 150 years old Chkhaveri vine and the resulting wine, aptly named "Ancestor Wine" as an homage to their forebears. It is a source of pride to mention that the new Kobidze generation remains fervently engaged in the family's agricultural pursuits.
The year 2022 brought further growth following their participation in the local business development grant program within the framework of the SECTORs project "Skills for Employment and Cooperation – Tailoring Opportuniteis for the Regions of Georgia," the project supported by the European Union. This achievement spurred increased production and the creation of additional employment opportunities at the cellar.
